The Couch Update 7/14/10

I spent the day yesterday with The Couch in the studio and at their practice space. The band got together and practiced their setlist for their upcoming show at Triple Crown in San Marcos, TX this Thursday. What I’ve heard sounds great so far and anyone who is coming out to Triple Crown on Thursday night is in for a great show.

For more information on Thursday’s show go here.

The Couch Hit the Studio

The Couch are back in the studio working on new material. I’ve been given the opportunity to tag along and capture the development of their next EP. So far everything sounds great and everyone is hard at work at producing some of the most solid work from the band so far.

More photographs and videos are on the way so stay tuned for updates!

Zlam Dunk @ Triple Crown

I danced and took pictures of Zlam Dunk last night at Triple Crown in San Marcos. They opened for the couch and as usual put on a great show. I think this was my favorite photo of them last night. There’s something about watching Charlie run through the crowd with a basketball hoop. Everyone goes crazy!

The Couch Blue Milk EP Release Show

Last night I attended and shot The Couch EP release show at Triple Crown in San Marcos, TX. It was my first time using an external flash and shooting a concert so it was a night of learning and dancing.

Albums of October

Andrew Bird: Noble Beast

For some reason this is the album I always end up falling back because I work a very stressful schedule during the week. The reason this is so successful outside his masterful technique and soothing whistles is that the music on this album fits pretty much any situation where I might find myself needing a music break. Whether it be on the morning commute, the dark room, working at the Star, or kicking back with a book, this album has no boundaries.

Also with fall weather slowly creeping up on us, that opener syncs perfectly with the first cold front of the fall break.

Atlas Sound: Logos

I actually found this band this morning. Wow this album is great. A good variety of loud and soft songs. It feels like a smoothie of Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Caribou. Good stuff all around but I plan on listening to this some more.

The Flaming Lips: Embryonic

This is one hell of an album right here. I haven’t heard the Lips do anything more than partake in David Lynch’s and Danger Mouse’s Dark Night of the Soul. The first song I heard by them was Watching the Planets and it was when they performed on Conan. I was simply awestruck the entire length of the performance. Psychedelic gongs and black coffee go very well together at 8 A.M. in the morning. The new album is very heavy and very radical but still maintains that Lips feel to it.

St. Vincent and Andrew Bird: An Astonishing Duo

Be sure to catch all of it. It’s quite mystifying.
